Big Ideas, Little Builders: Hands-On STEM Learning at PCA

Published October 06, 2026
Big ideas, little builders! 🛠️🪚

There’s something new in STEM at PCA, and our students are already putting it to good use!

This year, Mrs. Hollis introduced the Chompsaw, a kid-safe power tool that allows students to safely cut cardboard and turn their ideas into hands-on creations.

Our second graders are the first to put it to work! As an extension of their Greek history unit, students are bringing History, Art, and STEM together to create their own three-dimensional Greek vases. They designed their vase shapes, added scratch art designs, and then used the Chompsaw to help bring their creations to life.

And this is just the beginning! Third graders will use the Chompsaw to build their own mini golf course while learning about forces and energy, and our kindergarteners will create a collaborative cardboard and felt quilt as they explore patterns.

We currently have two Chompsaws at PCA, and we are excited about the possibilities they are opening up for hands-on learning across grade levels.

We can’t wait to see what our little builders create next!
